Message from the Chair
MRCGP [INT.] South Asia Board
Welcome, Dear Colleagues, to the MRCGP [INT.] South Asia Board Website!
As newly appointed Chair. I am thrilled to continue to present this exclusive website which serves as a central resource for the latest updates, exam details, and essential information related to the MRCGP [INT.] qualification in our region.
The importance of a robust and well-trained primary healthcare workforce is now more widely recognized. Governments and healthcare planners across South Asia are increasingly sensitive to the critical role that General Practitioners and Family Physicians play in strengthening the primary care system. In many South Asian countries, General Practitioners (GPs) and Family Physicians often face significant challenges in furthering their education in Family Medicine due to the limited availability of structured, postgraduate courses that are specifically tailored to enhancing the quality of general practice and family medicine. This gap has been a major hurdle for those striving to improve their knowledge and practice, with limited opportunities to specialize in a field that is crucial to the health of our communities. The MRCGP [INT.] offers a pathway for GPs and Family Physicians to elevate their expertise, ensuring they are well-equipped to meet the demands of modern healthcare delivery.
In addition, to fill this gap, I am pleased to announce that our one-year certificate course: Foundation of Family Medicine has been launched from January 2025. We had an overwhelming turnout of applications for the course but were only able to take 50 candidates. We hope to expand this to a larger number next year.
The Foundation of Family Medicine Certificate Course and the MRCGP [INT.] qualification not only provides GPs and Family Physicians with an internationally recognized standard of excellence but also supports the development of a stronger, more effective primary healthcare system across the region.
We look forward to supporting you on your academic journey and to continuing our collective efforts to enhance the future of primary healthcare in South Asia.
